Pilgrimages and Retreats
In March, 20 members of the parish went on a pilgrimage to the North – and visited Newcastle, Lindisfarne and Durham in pursuit of the story of early Christianity there, and in particular the contributions of St Aidan and St Cuthbert. It seems that a great time was had by all who went. This was, one person said, “very much a pilgrimage and not merely a trip.” 78% described it as excellent and 86% of those who went said they would be likely to recommend this sort of pilgrimage to others. Those who went spoke about the value of the spiritual company and being with fellow pilgrims, and about the value of the learning, worship and fellowship.
The next parish retreat is from Monday 16th to Thursday 19th June 2025 in Perpignan in the South West of France, capital city of the Pyrénées-Orientales and a mere 15 miles from the Spanish border. It has a fascinating history as the capital of the Kingdom of Majorca in the 13th and 14th centuries, and though French has a strong Catalan influence. If a few days in the sun, exploring the history, religion, culture, and gastronomy of this beautiful French town appeals to you, it is not too late to reserve a place!
