As a parish church within the growing Diocese of London, St Paul’s is privileged to have a strong clergy team and skilled lay leadership.
There are two full-time clergy, and a team of honorary assistant clergy. Under the vicar’s leadership they support the work of the church. A member of the clergy is available by appointment for confession and spiritual guidance.
A member of the parish clergy is always available in pastoral emergencies and we will be glad to be contacted at whatever hour, seven days a week.
Our two churchwardens bring varied and complementary skills and lead a strong team of Deputy Churchwardens.
Alan Gyle is the twelfth vicar of St Paul’s Knightsbridge. A Scotsman by birth, he studied music in Scotland, later reading theology at Oxford. He was ordained in St Paul’s Cathedral in London and before coming to Knightsbridge served variously in Acton Green as a curate, at St George’s Chapel Windsor as a Minor Canon, and at Imperial College and the Royal College of Art as Chaplain. He is a Priest Vicar of Westminster Abbey, an FRSA and an experienced coach and organisational consultant.
Rosie Richardson is Associate Vicar of St Paul’s Knightsbridge. A life-long Londoner, Rosie joined the team in July 2023 having completed her curacy at Holy Trinity, Northwood. Rosie is also involved in the discernment of vocations as Assistant Director of Ordinands in the Diocese of London, and serves at St Paul’s Cathedral, where she is part of the Duty Minister team and regularly sings Evensong. Before training for ordained ministry Rosie worked as a professional musician, having studied as a solo pianist and accompanist at Guildhall School of Music and Drama from where she holds a master’s degree. Rosie continues to work as a musician alongside her parish work, maintaining her connection with Guildhall as faculty pianist.
James Chegwidden is Associate Priest at St Paul’s. He grew up in Australia and initially studied law in Sydney and Oxford, after which he was called to the Bar in London in 2008. James later read theology at Oxford, and was ordained in 2021 after completing masters studies in Philosophical Theology. James has previously served at Magdalen College, Oxford as Assistant Chaplain and at St Cuthbert’s Philbeach Gardens, London, as Curate, and he continues to serve as Duty Minister at St Paul’s Cathedral. James maintains a practice at the Bar in employment and equalities law alongside his work in parish. He has a particular focus on adult theological formation and catechesis.
Ellen Clark-King is an Honorary Associate Priest at St Paul’s Knightsbridge, and is Dean of King’s College London. Ellen has degrees in History (University of Cambridge) and Christian Spirituality (University of London), and specialised in Practical Theology and Feminist Spirituality for her PhD (Lancaster University) with a thesis on Feminist Theology interrogated by the voices of white working class women. Ellen trained for the Anglican priesthood in Oxford; following her ordination in 1992 and a curacy in the Diocese of Hereford, she was Chaplain and Fellow at Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge (1995-2000). Ellen then spent time in parish, cathedral, and higher education settings in the UK, Canada, and the USA.
Bishop Michael was born in Staffordshire and ordained in Lichfield. Most of Bishop Michael’s ministry has been in London where he has held, with distinction, a number of key roles as Archdeacon, Area Bishop and Canon Pastor of St Paul’s Cathedral. Now in very active retirement, he brings energy and great wisdom to the team and to the parish as a weekday and Sunday celebrant and as an engaging preacher and teacher.
Victor Stock trained at King’s College London and served in a number of London parishes before becoming for many years the Rector of St Mary-le-Bow in the City of London. He was an ebullient and popular figure, establishing the ‘disputation’ series on account of the church’s two pulpits – where well-known figures would engage in conversation across their differences. He then became Dean of Guildford, from which post he retired in 2012. He is an occasional broadcaster (BBC Radio 4’s Infinite Monkey Cage), a Priest Vicar of Westminster Abbey and an FRSA.
Gillian is CEO of GoHealth and Associate Priest at St Paul’s Knightsbridge. She is passionately committed to health, healing and Christian living. She is a cancer survivor, Anglican priest, theologian and scientist with a strong interest in communication and teaching. She has a doctorate in Physics from Imperial College London and an MA in Theology from the University of Oxford. She is particularly keen to bring the study of science into conversations about Christian healing. She is the author of Introducing Science and Religion: A path through polemic (SPCK, 2014), The Limits of Science? (CSP, 2017) and Cancer: A Pilgrim Companion (SPCK, 2017).
