Keeping a Holy Lent

The Church’s Holy Season of Lent…

keeping-holy-lent…coincides with the end of winter and the re-awakening of the earth for a new season of growth. Our aim in this season is to mirror this in quiet reflection, simplification of life and prayerful preparation. Click on the links below to find out more of all the opportunities over the coming 6 weeks.

There are lots of small ways in which you can make a difference this Lent. Here are 10 ideas. Which might work for you? click on the links for details.

Plan to GIVE ALMS – Blue envelopes are available in church for our LENT APPEAL, or give online.

If reflective space is your thing, why not come along to the WEDNESDAY EVENING SERVICE at 6:45pm in Lent. The clergy and music scholars, Findlay and Adam, will provide words and music for a guided lenten reflection.

keeping-holy-lentWe’ll be supporting the ALMA link – and in particular our link with All Saints Nhamavila. Perhaps you’ll host one of our MEALS FOR MOZAMBIQUE this Lent and invite your guests to make a donation to the appeal?

If learning is your thing, Fr Nick and Fr Louis are hosting a series of VICARAGE STUDY & DISCUSSION GROUPS on Tuesday evenings from 7pm till 8:30pm.

We’ve joined forces again with ROCOCO CHOCOLATES to sell the Absolution Chocolate Bar – one of their Artisan Bars with an Absolution wrapper which guarantees a donation of £1 to the Lent appeal. Available from church or from Rococo’s flagship store in Motcomb Street. You can see what is available on their website and you can order bars (at £5 each) by contacting Felicity in the Church Office (info@spkb.org or (020) 7201 9999) who can mail them to you or leave them for you to collect when you’re next in church. See what some of our friends have to say about it here!

Worship at St Paul’s is a seven day a week activity. Why not take on an extra DAILY SERVICE this Lent?

keeping-holy-lentIs your SPIRITUAL MOT overdue? If so, please ring the office and make an appointment to have a 1 hour check up with one of the clergy.

Make sure the dates of Holy Week 2017 are in your diary now – PALM SUNDAY is on 9th April – and you should then be in church here or somewhere else on MAUNDY THURSDAY at 7:30pm, GOOD FRIDAY from noon till 3 and HOLY SATURDAY at 8:30pm

And will you consider re-engaging with the ancient tradition of FASTING ON FRIDAYS – or at least eating fish or vegetables, which is as good for us physically as spiritually!

And PRAY daily.
